I was born in Riga, Latvia some 30 years ago. As more less all children at that time i was spending summer time in countryside where together with my brother I caught my first fish. Since then fishing came my lifetime hobby. First years it was only trout fishing mainly with spinner till year 1988 when i was introduced to fly fishing. Fly rods was hard to find in post soviet county`s and rods were incredibly expensive. Only 7 years later i have build my first fly rod, and fly fishing became the only way i fish since that time. In 1997 i met my friend Egils Collenkopfs. Together with him we set our curse to start presentable fly casting instruction in Latvia and we where first persons in post Soviet Union who passed FFF Europe Fly casting certification test in 2002. Also i was the youngest instructor at that time. Since then, and even some years before, i have been teaching fly casting in Latvia and later all around Europe and also giving some demos in different fly fishing events. Many of my students nowadays are good casters and some of them even certified instructors in our organization EFFA. That`s the greatest acknowledgment i can receive as instructor. You can also find quite many of my articles about fly fishing in our country`s magazines and a broad.
My fly casting knowledge won`t cost a cent, if I would not be able to apply it in practice. In other words i am fly fisherman and fly casting make sense until it`s applyable in fishing. Understanding and ability to cast different fly`s in various places allow to catch big ones almost anywhere. That`s what it is all about!
My education was following my passion for fly fishing for many years. I have masters` degree in Biology and currently i`m writing my Ph.D thesis. Education enable help to understand thing`s that otherwise would not be so clear…
